Remote worker thinking about San Ramon

I relocated for work and Rent is about $2,916/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 57--F, so the weather is moderate. With a population of 85,734, San Ramon is a smaller city. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Anyone in a similar situation? The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I'm still on the fence after all this time. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it exceeded my expectations. Compared to Minneapolis it's solid.

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Highland. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like seafood.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

My experience has been mostly positive. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The only thing I'd watch out for is weather. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from San Francisco about 11 years ago. The main reasons were weather and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is decent.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Nashville and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Greenfield. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
