What Sandusky does better than anywhere else

Been meaning to ask this. Rent is about $848/month for a decent place. With a population of 24,748, Sandusky is a small town. You can expect to pay around $848 for rent here. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

The food scene here is hit or miss. Tons of great Mexican places. it's exactly what I was looking for.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a accountant, 43, moved here 11 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Lakewood and Oak Park, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Lots of new development happening
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Not very walkable outside downtown
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The traffic situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for singles. decent vibes, walkable.
- Oak Park: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Minneapolis, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $90K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Bought a house here in 2017 and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 2 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Sunset. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in engineering. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Hope this helps!.

Public transit is challenging here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
