Worst things about Sandy Springs nobody talks about
Been meaning to ask this. I'm a teacher here and The median home value here is around $583,900, which is pretty steep. Household incomes average around $101,593 in Sandy Springs. Poverty rate is 6.2%, which is pretty low. You can expect to pay around $1,789 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a nurse who relocated here from Dallas about 1 years ago. The main reasons were weather and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is pretty good.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (South) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
