Anyone else feel this way? Homes are going for about $562,500 on average. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Has anyone dealt with this? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is public transit. Other than that, Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 4 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is hit or miss.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Eastside side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from San Francisco about 12 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Lots of new development happening
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are manageable, gas is underrated.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Fairview. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in finance. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.
People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
No regrets on my end..

I've lived in Midtown for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from LA, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of new development happening
- The cultural scene scene is hit or miss
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a social worker, 44, moved here 6 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in The Heights and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Nice parks and green spaces
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Limited public transit options
3. The food scene situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- The Heights: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is manageable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been here 14 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is school system. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.
