Been meaning to ask this. I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $62,877 in Sanford. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Has anyone dealt with this? The suburbs are where most families end up. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value public transit, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely excellent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cost of living, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
