What I wish I knew before living in Sanford

Been meaning to ask this. The unemployment rate is 3.0%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Phoenix it's excellent.

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great BBQ places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want community vibe, then yeah this place is great. But if job market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I work in marketing here and it's been a really good experience overall. The job market for my field is surprisingly good. Definitely worth checking out..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Baltimore about 12 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are wild, gas is solid.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

Came here for family and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is honestly average and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Miami about 6 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is improving.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Oak Park. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Asian.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.
