What's it really like living in Sanibel?

I work in engineering and Rent is about $747/month for a decent place. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

As someone who grew up here, it was the best decision I ever made. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cost of living used to be much competitive but now it's hit or miss.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Austin about 15 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Limited entertainment options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is underrated.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Old Town for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
- The food scene scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Road conditions need improvement
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

I've lived in Downtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Miami, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The healthcare scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited shopping options

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Midtown for 11 years. Moved from Portland for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is solid. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. marketing is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor scene is surprisingly good - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Midtown schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Limited shopping options. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
