Moving to Santa Clara for work — advice?

Alright, Just moved here 10 months ago and It's a a mid-size city city with about 129K people. Poverty rate is 4.4%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Has anyone dealt with this?

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value walkability, you'll love it. The nightlife is genuinely improving and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Riverside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Dating scene is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

I've lived in Midtown for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from New York, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Active local events and festivals
- The public transit scene is decent

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 7 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is walkability. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The East side vs the Greenfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I'm a social worker and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. The community is improving and there's always something going on.
