Is public transit usable in Santa Clara?

Longtime lurker here, Median household income is $46,094, which feels on the lower side for the area. The median home value here is around $120,900, which is actually reasonable. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

I'm a software engineer and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. The community is decent and there's always something going on.

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Meadowbrook area are tough. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 7 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is public transit. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Westside. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in tech. If you're in engineering you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 6 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from LA about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is tough.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's been a really good experience overall. Compared to Houston it's challenging.
