Cheapest neighborhoods in Santa Cruz?

Been meaning to ask this. It's a a smaller city city with about 60,953 people. Average temperature is around 59--F, so the weather is moderate. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. What do you all think? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from LA about 9 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Lots of new development happening
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Homeless population growing downtown

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. No regrets on my end..
