Freelancing from Santa Cruz -experience?

Anyone else feel this way? The median home value here is around $1,180,100, which is pretty steep. Rent is about $2,302/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 60,953 people. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Thoughts? TIA! There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The food scene here is surprisingly good. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The weather takes some getting used to.

Bought a house here in 2019 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are pricey. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2021 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
