Crime rate is something to consider -Santa Cruz sits at 596.1 per 100K. The median home value here is around $1,180,100, which is pretty steep. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Thoughts? Any help is appreciated.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Eastside. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in construction. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.
