Job hunting in Santa Fe -tips?

Hey folks, Just moved here 14 months ago and It's a a small town city with about 12,828 people. Median household income is $95,815, which feels pretty solid for the area. Poverty rate is 5.5%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Any advice would be great. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

I've been living here for 2 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The community vibe is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. public transit used to be much established but now it's average.

My experience has been mostly positive. it's been a really good experience overall. The only thing I'd watch out for is traffic. Other than that, Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 54, moved here 10 years ago from Boston. I've lived in Highland and Fairview, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Strong job market in several industries
2. Four distinct seasons
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally tough - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited high-paying job options
2. Can feel isolated
3. The dating scene situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Highland: Great for singles. average vibes, walkable.
- Fairview: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Boston, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $70K-$140K here.

**Final verdict:**
No regrets on my end.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Meadowbrook. It's improving for what you get.

Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Feel free to reach out with questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's hit or miss for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in retail. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

Hope this helps!.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is school system. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Tampa about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and a fresh start.

Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are growing, gas is excellent.

Socially, I have mixed feelings honestly. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a teacher who relocated here from Portland about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good internet infrastructure
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Not a lot of cultural diversity

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. No regrets on my end..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if cultural scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
