I'm a teacher here and Property taxes are high but you get good services. Worth the trade-offs?

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it was the best decision I ever made. Hope this helps!.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great Southern places. it's been a really good experience overall.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The safety is genuinely better than expected and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Uptown) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Houston about 8 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are developing, gas is average.
Socially, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 1-bedroom. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Compared to Phoenix it's surprisingly good.
