Is Santa Maria getting better or worse?

So, Born and raised here. Household incomes average around $84,617 in Santa Maria. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Is this normal for Santa Maria? Thanks in advance! Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Used to live on the North side, now on the East side. Completely different vibe. I have mixed feelings honestly.
