Moving to Santa Maria -what should I know?

We're a young couple and Household incomes average around $84,617 in Santa Maria. Crime rate is something to consider -Santa Maria sits at 426.7 per 100K. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Thoughts? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from LA about 10 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons that are real:
- Bugs and humidity in summer
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Good luck with whatever you decide..
