Just moved to Santa Monica from Denver — first impressions

We made the move 1 ago and here are my first impressions:

The food scene is amazing. Rent runs about $2,338/month for a typical apartment. Weather is moderate — about 62F average.

Biggest surprise: How friendly the neighbors are
Biggest disappointment: Some areas feel neglected

Overall, there are worse places to be.

If you can afford it, Oakwood is the best place to live. Period.

The food scene here is seriously underrated. So many great restaurants.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Northside. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

I've lived in Eastside for 3 years and it's still one of the best decisions I made.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Pine Grove and Southside are perfectly safe.

My kids love it here. So many parks and activities. So many outdoor activities.

As someone who moved here from Phoenix, I can confirm most of this. The cost of living surprised me the most.

Can confirm the safety issue. But it really depends on the neighborhood. Downtown and Lakewood are perfectly safe.

Good summary. I'd rate it higher personally — maybe 6/10.

Weather is the biggest factor for us. Four seasons are nice, not too extreme either way.

Respectfully disagree about the safety concerns. In my experience, there are good opportunities if you network.

Check out the Lakewood area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

The job market has been improving lately. Several manufacturing companies moved in recently.
