Curious what people think. I'm retired and Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Poverty rate is 6.4%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $2,338/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 91,535 people. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I've lived in Maple Ridge for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by healthcare. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- The dating scene scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Came here for family and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The public transit is honestly solid and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

- Diverse dining options
- The community vibe scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for couples. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
