Planning a move to Santa Teresa -neighborhoods?

I grew up here but left for a while. Average temperature is around 63--F, so the weather is moderate. Rent is about $1,259/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Let me know your thoughts.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 36, moved here 11 years ago from Nashville. I've lived in Lakewood and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Decent public transit for the size
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The safety situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Lakewood: Great for retirees. solid vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Nashville, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Tampa and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Uptown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Korean.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in Springfield area are solid. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is healthcare. I genuinely enjoy living here. Worth doing your research before committing.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Old Town for 10 years. Moved from Tampa for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Lots of new construction which should help.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. hospitality is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I genuinely enjoy living here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Old Town schools are pretty good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Nightlife is limited. And safety can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Weather-wise, the summers are improving and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Chicago about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are wild, gas is underrated.

Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a contractor who relocated here from Charlotte about 11 years ago. The main reasons were weather and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Definitely worth checking out..
