Not sure if this has been asked before, but Rent is about $1,514/month for a decent place. It's a a smaller city city with about 56,218 people. Median household income is $70,065, which feels about average for the area. Household incomes average around $70,065 in Sarasota. The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. TIA! The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 52, moved here 7 years ago from Seattle. I've lived in Sunset and Springfield, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Affordable housing options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Summers can be brutally hot
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The community vibe situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Sunset: Great for retirees. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Springfield: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Seattle, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $80K-$120K here.
**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Miami and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Lakewood. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally pretty good. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like Italian.
Definitely worth checking out..

Bought a house here in 2016 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone about the same since then.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is pretty good in most areas.

I've lived in Highland for about 13 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Boston, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- The dating scene scene is decent
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a marketing manager who relocated here from Salt Lake City about 15 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and a job opportunity.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good healthcare facilities
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited high-paying job options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is solid.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
