Been meaning to ask this. Homes are going for about $409,700 on average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Is this normal for Sarasota?

Public transit is improving here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in engineering you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
