OK so Homes are going for about $567,200 on average. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Appreciate any input.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's excellent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.
I've been here 3 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely excellent and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Springfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Portland, be prepared for the culture shock. housing market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is better than expected in most areas.
