Why I chose Saugatuck over bigger cities
First post here. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

As someone who grew up here, it's improved dramatically in recent years. A lot has changed in the past few years though. school system used to be much established but now it's excellent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value nightlife, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely hit or miss and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (East) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Francisco, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Moved here from New York about 3 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to cost of living but Good luck with whatever you decide..
