Unpopular opinion about Saugus

Just moved here 5 months ago and You can expect to pay around $1,982 for rent here. Median household income is $100,819, which feels pretty solid for the area. The median home value here is around $589,500, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. With a population of 28,599, Saugus is a smaller city. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Growing food scene
- Good schools
- Good healthcare facilities
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Rising rent prices
- Limited dining options
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
Should I be concerned? Appreciate any input. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

The food scene here is solid. Tons of great Southern places. I genuinely enjoy living here.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 58, moved here 4 years ago from Miami. I've lived in South and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good healthcare facilities
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The food scene situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for families. hit or miss vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Miami, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 8 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 4-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Denver it's pretty good.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a teacher, 47, moved here 1 years ago from Minneapolis. I've lived in Riverside and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally average - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Property taxes are high
3. The traffic situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Charlotte about 5 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Active local events and festivals
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are competitive, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, the quality of life is solid. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want cultural scene, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
