Considering Sauk Village vs Atlanta -help me decide
Hey folks, Crime rate is something to consider -Sauk Village sits at 5,485.0 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 9,724 people. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Has anyone dealt with this? TIA! There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

I've lived in Midtown for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The public transit scene is tough
The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Road conditions need improvement
Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for retirees. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I work in education here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is tough. Feel free to reach out with questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it exceeded my expectations. No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in finance you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: tough. Tons of options if you like sushi.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely challenging and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Old Town) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are manageable. You get used to it after the first year.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's exactly what I was looking for. Internet is better than expected in most areas.
