Relocating to Sault Ste. Marie, MI -pros and cons?

Poverty rate is 10.9%, which is around average. The unemployment rate is 3.4%, which is pretty low. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Worth the trade-offs? It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Bought a house here in 2018 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone about the same since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely tough and I've found I have mixed feelings honestly. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
