Savage is underrated, change my mind

Been living here since 2021. The median home value here is around $395,600, which seems about average. Average temperature is around 47--F, so expect cold winters. Crime rate is something to consider -Savage sits at 108.2 per 100K. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Good schools
- Low taxes
- Plenty of shopping options
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- High property taxes
- Boring for young people
- Mosquitoes and humidity
What do you all think? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 9 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.

I've been here 9 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is dating scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is walkability. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Worth doing your research before committing.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I work in consulting here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is improving. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Baltimore about 9 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Not very walkable outside downtown

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.

Socially, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Happy to answer more specific questions..
