Been meaning to ask this. I've been here for 17 years and With a population of 148K, Savannah is a mid-size city. Poverty rate is 13.2%, which is around average. Median household income is $56,782, which feels about average for the area. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Worth the trade-offs? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Downtown for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I have mixed feelings honestly. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by nightlife. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Good healthcare facilities
- The cost of living scene is decent
The downsides:
- Nightlife is limited
- Limited shopping options
Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for families. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I'm a social worker and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The community is pretty good and there's always something going on.

Bought a house here in 2022 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value weather, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Maple Ridge) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
