Is Savannah worth moving to in 2026?

Anyone else feel this way? We have two kids and Median household income is $58,983, which feels about average for the area. Poverty rate is 1.5%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Savannah sits at 19.2 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 5,062 people. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

I work in healthcare here and the quality of life is solid. The job market for my field is decent. Good luck with whatever you decide..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Cedar Grove. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a project manager who relocated here from San Francisco about 14 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Decent public transit for the size

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem underrated.

I've been here 13 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Springfield side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The pet-friendliness is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Pittsburgh about 10 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Nice parks and green spaces

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it better than expected compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are developing, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Happy to answer more specific questions..
