Longtime lurker here, My partner and I are It's a a small town city with about 15,593 people. You can expect to pay around $2,339 for rent here. The unemployment rate is 1.8%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $2,339/month for a decent place. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Should I be concerned? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want food scene, then yeah this place is great. But if cost of living matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I've lived in Highland for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good airport with direct flights
- The public transit scene is pretty good
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Homeless population growing downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for retirees. Hope this helps!.
