Hey everyone, Poverty rate is 4.3%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Schaumburg sits at 99.4 per 100K. Homes are going for about $312,200 on average. Rent is about $1,774/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Worth the trade-offs? There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Meadowbrook area are improving. Kids love it here.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is pet-friendliness. it's not perfect but it works for me. Worth doing your research before committing.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in East for 4 years. Moved from Austin for school. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is better than expected. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth down slightly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. Older homes are where the value is.
**Employment:**
education is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it exceeded my expectations. The outdoor scene is decent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. East schools are underrated. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Chain restaurants dominate. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 6/10. Would recommend to anyone considering it.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2020 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in retail. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally improving. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..
