Commute times in Schaumburg -how bad?

Anyone else feel this way? With a population of 76,780, Schaumburg is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 50--F, so expect cold winters. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. As someone who grew up here, I genuinely enjoy living here. A lot has changed in the past few years though. outdoor recreation used to be much developing but now it's solid.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are stable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 31, moved here 15 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Riverside and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally pretty good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Not a lot of cultural diversity
3. The job market situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Riverside: Great for couples. surprisingly good vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $60K-$130K here.

**Final verdict:**
Happy to answer more specific questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say it's not perfect but it works for me. The public transit is average compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..

Came here for work and stayed because there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The public transit is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
