Is it worth buying in Schenectady?

Alright, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Schenectady sits at 806.1 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 5.3%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $152,000, which is actually reasonable. It's a a smaller city city with about 68,521 people. You can expect to pay around $1,109 for rent here. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Pros:
- Growing food scene
- Low crime in most areas
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure
- Plenty of shopping options

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Not enough green space
Should I be concerned? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Hot take but I genuinely enjoy living here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 14 years here, that's my honest assessment.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Internet is tough in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
