Just moved to Schenectady, any tips?

First post here. Crime rate is something to consider -Schenectady sits at 806.1 per 100K. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's exactly what I was looking for. Compared to Miami it's challenging.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are affordable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Pine Hills. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Vietnamese.

No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 8 years ago from Atlanta and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally surprisingly good. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like sushi.

Hope this helps!.

Came here for weather and stayed because I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The cost of living is honestly pretty good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've been living here for 11 years and I'd say I'm still on the fence after all this time. The traffic is challenging compared to other places I've lived. Overall Definitely worth checking out..
