Hey everyone, The suburbs are where most families end up. Should I be concerned? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I genuinely enjoy living here. Internet is hit or miss in most areas.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. the quality of life is solid. Compared to Seattle it's excellent.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The job market is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. weather is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value food scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. My neighborhood (Pine Hills) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. outdoor recreation is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want traffic, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 1 years and the quality of life is solid. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the outdoor recreation is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Fairview side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a software engineer, 42, moved here 4 years ago from Salt Lake City. I've lived in Uptown and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Nice parks and green spaces
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Road conditions need improvement
3. The pet-friendliness situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Salt Lake City, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$70K here.
**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

I've lived in Cedar Grove for about 7 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by job market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Strong job market in several industries
- The school system scene is underrated
The downsides:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Limited entertainment options
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Weather-wise, the summers are pretty good and winters are competitive. You get used to it after the first year.
