Is Schererville still affordable?

Hey everyone, I'm single, late 50s, and Household incomes average around $86,020 in Schererville. With a population of 29,627, Schererville is a smaller city. Rent is about $1,224/month for a decent place. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks! I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Old Town. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in education. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
