Is Schererville worth moving to in 2026?

I work in hospitality and It's a a smaller city city with about 29,627 people. You can expect to pay around $1,224 for rent here. Median household income is $86,020, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,224/month for a decent place. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Any help is appreciated. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 5 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the nightlife is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by housing market. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Four distinct seasons
- The safety scene is decent

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Property taxes are high

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for singles. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Austin about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good internet infrastructure
- Diverse dining options

Cons that are real:
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Road conditions need improvement

Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are established, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a electrician, 29, moved here 3 years ago from San Diego. I've lived in Springfield and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Close to major attractions
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Limited high-paying job options
3. The traffic situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for retirees. improving vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Diego, everything felt tough. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$70K here.

**Final verdict:**
Definitely worth checking out.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem excellent.

I've been here 12 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Uptown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

I'm a sales manager who relocated here from Charlotte about 8 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is average.

Socially, it's not perfect but it works for me. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Pittsburgh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Old Town. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in retail. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally challenging. It took about 5 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: improving. Tons of options if you like Southern.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

I've been here 11 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is challenging.

I'm a pharmacist who relocated here from Atlanta about 5 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and my partner's job.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Decent public transit for the size
- Four distinct seasons

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are pricey, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value healthcare, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely pretty good and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Eastside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
