Honest thoughts on life in Schertz

Hey everyone, I grew up here but left for a while. Rent is about $1,593/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $96,633 in Schertz. The unemployment rate is 3.5%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 4.6%, which is pretty low. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Let me know your thoughts. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Moved here from Denver about 9 years ago. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Still getting used to walkability but No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem hit or miss.

I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into rock climbing, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Nashville about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Good internet infrastructure
- Active local events and festivals

Cons that are real:
- Property taxes are high
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Feel free to reach out with questions..
