I'm a 31-year-old mechanic and Poverty rate is 4.1%, which is pretty low. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

I'm a physical therapist and I've found it's not perfect but it works for me. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Bought a house here in 2017 and there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The school system is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Sunset for 15 years. Moved from Denver for family. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is average. We bought in 2024 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
real estate is strong here. government is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is improving - we have biking trails within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Property taxes are high. And dating scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For singles, I'd say this is a 9/10. It's not for everyone but it works for us.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely solid and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Not very walkable outside downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are challenging, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are challenging and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 1 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is excellent.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you value traffic, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely better than expected and I've found it's exactly what I was looking for. My neighborhood (Westside) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Atlanta, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
