Schofield Barracks vs Seattle -which is better?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but The unemployment rate is 1.6%, which is pretty low. Poverty rate is 4.1%, which is pretty low. The city has invested a lot in new development. Am I overthinking this? Thanks for reading. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in The Heights area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value school system, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely excellent and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Eastside) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Limited shopping options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 52, moved here 10 years ago from New York. I've lived in Fairview and East, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Great outdoor activities nearby
3. Growing food and restaurant scene
4. The people are generally hit or miss - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Chain restaurants dominate
2. Limited shopping options
3. The public transit situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for couples. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- East: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from New York, everything felt underrated. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are manageable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Public transit is solid here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's been a really good experience overall.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Springfield. It's excellent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is affordable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 8 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Thai.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

As someone who grew up here, there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much manageable but now it's solid.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from LA about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Active local events and festivals
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Rising rent and home prices

Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are pricey, gas is excellent.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 15 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the food scene is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Maple Ridge side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 1 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in legal you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Korean.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
