Military spouse here. With a population of 10,398, Scottdale is a small town. Median household income is $82,778, which feels pretty solid for the area. The weather takes some getting used to. The food scene here is surprisingly good.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely average and I've found it's been a really good experience overall. My neighborhood (Greenfield) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Raleigh, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Came here for weather and stayed because it's improved dramatically in recent years. The nightlife is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
