Why I chose Scottdale over bigger cities

Hey, I'm single, late 40s, and Poverty rate is 6.6%, which is pretty low. Rent is about $1,460/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $319,400 on average. Average temperature is around 62--F, so the weather is moderate. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Would love some local perspective. The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want job market, then yeah this place is great. But if healthcare matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Boston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Sunset. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
