Not sure if this has been asked before, but I'm a nurse at the local hospital and The median home value here is around $709,900, which is pretty steep. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Is this normal for Scottsdale? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Oak Park for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Houston, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Lots of new development happening
- Good internet infrastructure
- The outdoor recreation scene is excellent
The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 5 years ago from Phoenix and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Maple Ridge. It's surprisingly good for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.
People: Generally better than expected. It took about 10 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like Indian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Charlotte about 2 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are reasonable, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I have mixed feelings honestly. The traffic is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
