Housing in Seaford compared to Raleigh

First post here. We're a young couple and Homes are going for about $223,700 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -Seaford sits at 851.4 per 100K. You can expect to pay around $1,148 for rent here. Average temperature is around 55--F, so the weather is moderate. The median home value here is around $223,700, which is actually reasonable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Pros:
- Good schools
- Good healthcare facilities
- Good internet infrastructure
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Not very walkable
- High property taxes
- Mosquitoes and humidity
- Limited cultural events
- Not enough green space
Does this match your experience? Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods.

Bought a house here in 2024 and I have mixed feelings honestly. Property values have gone about the same since then.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a social worker, 30, moved here 7 years ago from Portland. I've lived in North and The Heights, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Nice parks and green spaces
3. Four distinct seasons
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Not very walkable outside downtown
3. The cost of living situation is affordable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- North: Great for singles. challenging vibes, walkable.
- The Heights: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are developing. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.

**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
