Relocating to Seaside, CA -pros and cons?

You can expect to pay around $2,314 for rent here. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. What are your go-to spots? There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. The suburbs are where most families end up.

I'm a writer and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. The community is tough and there's always something going on.

Used to live on the South side, now on the Sunset side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a pharmacist, 54, moved here 11 years ago from Houston. I've lived in South and North, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Great outdoor activities nearby
2. Growing food and restaurant scene
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Dating scene is rough
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The community vibe situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- South: Great for retirees. decent vibes, walkable.
- North: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Houston, everything felt decent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are reasonable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $80K-$150K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for family and stayed because it's exactly what I was looking for. The cultural scene is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value public transit, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely underrated and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is manageable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. dating scene is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Bought a house here in 2019 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.
