Been meaning to ask this. Household incomes average around $83,916 in Security-Widefield. Poverty rate is 5.4%, which is pretty low. Median household income is $83,916, which feels pretty solid for the area. Rent is about $1,703/month for a decent place. You can expect to pay around $1,703 for rent here. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting.
Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Growing food scene
- Easy commute
- Lots of new development
- Plenty of shopping options
Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Rising rent prices
- Limited dining options
- Poor road conditions
- Limited cultural events
What would you do? Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from San Francisco and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in legal. If you're in legal you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Denver and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's challenging for what you get.
Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Asian.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value traffic, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely underrated and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want nightlife, then yeah this place is great. But if food scene matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.
