Hey everyone, Just moved here 16 months ago and You can expect to pay around $854 for rent here. Median household income is $50,668, which feels on the lower side for the area. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Looking forward to hearing from you all. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The city has invested a lot in new development.

I work in engineering here and I have mixed feelings honestly. The job market for my field is underrated. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and it's not perfect but it works for me. Schools in Lakewood area are solid. Kids love it here.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Boston it's solid.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely pretty good and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Midtown) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Summers can be brutally hot.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's improving for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in construction. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.
