Couple moving to Sedalia from out of state

Hi all, Median household income is $50,668, which feels on the lower side for the area. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Thoughts? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Weather-wise, the summers are hit or miss and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

Bought a house here in 2018 and it was the best decision I ever made. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Used to live on the Riverside side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. the quality of life is solid.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely surprisingly good and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (North) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from LA, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
