Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.

I've been here 8 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is challenging.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Cedar Grove side vs the Maple Ridge side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

I've lived in Fairview for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from San Francisco, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Strong job market in several industries
- The job market scene is improving

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for couples. Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Dallas about 11 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Close to major attractions
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Can feel isolated

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are competitive, gas is improving.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value cost of living, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely improving and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Fairview) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a data analyst, 43, moved here 14 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Meadowbrook and Westside, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Growing food and restaurant scene
2. Good internet infrastructure
3. Active local events and festivals
4. The people are generally surprisingly good - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Urban sprawl is real
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The pet-friendliness situation is competitive and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Meadowbrook: Great for retirees. average vibes, walkable.
- Westside: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt excellent. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are stable. Gas is pricey. You can live comfortably on $90K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.
