Came here for a job opportunity and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The food scene is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a contractor who relocated here from Phoenix about 8 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Good healthcare facilities
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are established, gas is underrated.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Definitely worth checking out..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem surprisingly good.
I've been here 1 years and it exceeded my expectations. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the pet-friendliness is legit. And if you're into running, this place is underrated.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The community vibe is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (Highland) is pricey and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Pittsburgh, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
